Overview

Neurobioma is a topical active cosmetic and emollient complex developed by La Roche-Posay (a brand of L'Oréal) specifically designed to break the vicious itch-scratch cycle in atopic dermatitis. The complex is a synergistic combination of three active ingredients: Aqua Posae Filiformis (APF), a patented postbiotic biomass of Vitreoscilla filiformis; Microresyl, a patented extract from Ophiopogon japonicus root; and an antiprotease peptide (commercially known as Proteasyl, derived from Pisum sativum/pea extract). Together, these components work to rebalance the skin microbiome, inhibit Staphylococcus aureus biofilm formation, and prevent the activation of Protease-Activated Receptor-2 (PAR2) on sensory neurons and keratinocytes by inhibiting epidermal serine proteases (such as KLK5, KLK7, KLK14, and mast cell tryptase). This multi-target approach effectively reduces pruritus and restores skin barrier integrity. It is formulated in the commercial emollient Lipikar Baume AP+Max (also known as Lipikar AP+Max Triple Repair Moisturizing Cream).
