Overview

Neurodur (CEP-101) is an orally bioavailable small molecule calpain inhibitor developed by CepTor Corporation for the treatment of neurodegenerative and neuromuscular diseases, most notably multiple sclerosis (MS). Calpains are calcium-dependent cysteine proteases that, when overactivated, contribute to axonal degeneration and neuronal death. In preclinical studies published in the *Journal of Neuroimmunology* in 2006, Neurodur demonstrated the ability to significantly reduce clinical symptoms and histopathological markers of disease in the Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis (EAE) mouse model. The drug was part of CepTor's "Neuro-Target" platform, which aimed to deliver therapeutic agents specifically to affected neural tissues. Development of the compound was discontinued following the closure of CepTor Corporation in the late 2000s.
