This investigational combination therapy, developed by Biocells Medical, consists of neuroinduced mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and purified MSC-derived exosomes. It is currently being evaluated in Phase I/II clinical trials for the treatment of spinocerebellar ataxia (also referred to in study titles as spinocerebellar palsy). The treatment protocol involves the administration of 200 million neuroinduced MSCs via intravenous or intrathecal infusion, complemented by the intranasal delivery of purified exosomes. This dual approach aims to leverage the regenerative potential of stem cells and the targeted delivery of neuroprotective paracrine factors via exosomes to mitigate neurodegeneration and improve motor function in patients with ataxia.
