Overview

The NeuroRegen Scaffold is a linear-ordered collagen scaffold (LOCS) developed by the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences for the treatment of spinal cord injury (SCI). It is designed to be surgically implanted into the site of a spinal cord lesion to provide a physical bridge and guidance for axonal regeneration. The scaffold's ordered fibers mimic the natural architecture of the spinal cord, facilitating the growth of neurites across the injury gap. It can be used as a standalone biomaterial or as a delivery vehicle for bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMMCs) or mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to further promote neural repair and modulate the inhibitory environment of the lesion. Clinical studies in patients with complete acute and chronic SCI have demonstrated its safety and potential for improving sensory and motor functions.
