NeuroRegen scaffold combined with bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMMCs) and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) is an investigational regenerative medicine therapy developed by the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The NeuroRegen scaffold is a collagen-based biomaterial featuring linearly aligned pores, designed to bridge spinal cord lesions and guide axonal regrowth. The treatment involves surgically cleaning the injured spinal cord tissue and implanting the scaffold loaded with autologous BMMCs and/or MSCs (including human umbilical cord-derived or Wharton's jelly MSCs). The scaffold provides a structural framework that mimics the natural tissue environment, while the loaded stem cells exert immunomodulatory and neurotrophic effects to promote neural regeneration and functional recovery. This combination therapy has been evaluated in clinical trials for both acute and chronic complete spinal cord injuries.
