The drug functions by stabilizing the neuronal membrane through the inhibition of voltage-gated sodium channels, which prevents the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses, resulting in a reversible loss of sensation in the applied area. Its primary clinical indication is for the management of premature ejaculation, where it is applied topically to the glans penis to reduce sensitivity and prolong the time to ejaculation.
