Overview

NEUROSTEM is an allogeneic stem cell therapy consisting of human umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUCB-MSCs). Developed by the South Korean biotechnology company MEDIPOST, it is primarily being evaluated for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The therapy is designed to be administered directly into the brain's ventricles (intraventricularly) via an Ommaya reservoir. Its mechanism of action involves the secretion of various paracrine factors that promote the clearance of amyloid-beta plaques, reduce the hyperphosphorylation of tau proteins, and modulate neuroinflammation. Clinical studies, including Phase 1 and Phase 2a trials, have evaluated its safety and potential to slow cognitive decline in patients with dementia of the Alzheimer's type. Preclinical research has also explored the potential of these cells in other indications such as glioblastoma and rheumatoid arthritis.
