Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Neurotrophin-3 + chitosan is an experimental regenerative combination therapy developed by Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, for the treatment of hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage (ICH). The therapy utilizes a chitosan-based hydrogel that serves as a biocompatible and biodegradable scaffold, providing a structural matrix for tissue repair while ensuring the sustained release of neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) directly at the site of brain injury. NT-3 is a neurotrophic factor that binds to the TrkC receptor, promoting the survival, differentiation, and axonal growth of neurons. By delivering NT-3 into the hematoma cavity following surgical evacuation, the treatment aims to facilitate neural circuit reconstruction and improve motor and neurological recovery in patients suffering from the long-term effects of ICH.
