Overview

Neutrazumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody designed to target the complement C5a receptor 1 (C5aR1 or CD88). By acting as a C5aR antagonist, it blocks the binding of the potent anaphylatoxin C5a to its receptor, thereby inhibiting the activation and chemotaxis of inflammatory cells such as neutrophils and macrophages. Developed by Novo Nordisk, neutrazumab was primarily investigated for the treatment of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) to mitigate the tissue damage caused by excessive complement activation. However, clinical development for this molecule has been discontinued.
