Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NEVO is a sirolimus-eluting coronary stent system designed for the treatment of coronary artery disease. It utilizes a unique cobalt-chromium stent platform with hundreds of small reservoirs, or wells, carved into the stent struts. These reservoirs are filled with a bioresorbable polymer (PLGA) and the drug sirolimus, which is an immunosuppressant and antiproliferative agent. The design allows for a controlled, directional release of the drug into the vessel wall, aiming to prevent restenosis while minimizing systemic exposure. Sirolimus works by inhibiting the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), which in turn blocks cell cycle progression from the G1 to the S phase, effectively suppressing the smooth muscle cell proliferation that leads to vessel re-narrowing after stenting.
