Drug intelligence / Profile preview
New Parathyroid Transport Solution (NPTS) is an experimental organ preservation medium specifically formulated for the transport and cold storage of parathyroid glands prior to allotransplantation. Unlike standard multi-organ preservation solutions like the University of Wisconsin (UW) solution, NPTS is optimized to maintain the viability of parathyroid cells and preserve their functional integrity during cold ischemia. It aims to minimize cellular damage and maintain the density of critical surface proteins such as the Calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) and Vitamin D receptor (VDR), which are essential for the regulation of parathormone (PTH) secretion post-transplant. The solution operates by slowing cellular metabolism through hypothermia while providing osmotic support and metabolic precursors to prevent cell swelling and oxidative stress during storage.
