Overview
New Toothpaste Containing SnF is an experimental oral care formulation developed by Colgate-Palmolive containing stannous fluoride (SnF2) as the active ingredient. Stannous fluoride is a well-established anticavity, antigingivitis, and desensitizing agent. It works by delivering fluoride ions that bind to hydroxyapatite in tooth enamel, promoting remineralization and forming fluorapatite, which is highly resistant to acid dissolution and enamel erosion. Additionally, the stannous ions provide antibacterial activity by disrupting bacterial cell membranes, inhibiting metabolic enzymes (such as those involved in glycolysis), and reducing plaque biofilm viability. Colgate-Palmolive has evaluated this formulation in Phase 3 clinical trials for the prevention of enamel erosion, as well as for controlling dental plaque and gingivitis.
