Drug intelligence / Profile preview
New Wumeiwan Formula is an investigational traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (specifically Dongfang Hospital) and Peking University First Hospital for the treatment of severe active ulcerative colitis. Based on the classic 'Wumeiwan' (Black Plum Pill) formula from the *Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases* (Shanghan Lun), this modified formulation is designed to clear heat, resolve dampness, detoxify, resolve stasis, warm the kidney, and strengthen the spleen. It is composed of herbs including *Fructus Mume* (Wumei), *Rhizoma Zingiberis Praeparatum* (Paojiang), *Radix Aconiti Lateralis Praeparata* (Fuzi), *Rhizoma Coptidis* (Huanglian), and *Radix Scutellariae Carbonisata* (Huangqintan). In clinical trials, it is evaluated in combination with prednisone and/or mesalazine to assess its efficacy and safety in patients with severe active ulcerative colitis.
