Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Newbouldia laevis leaf ethanolic extract (NLE) is a botanical extract derived from the leaves of *Newbouldia laevis* (commonly known as the boundary tree or African border tree), a medium-sized angiosperm native to West Africa. The extract is rich in bioactive secondary metabolites, including flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, saponins, and terpenoids, which contribute to its pharmacological properties. In preclinical studies, NLE formulated into a topical cream has demonstrated significant wound-healing efficacy, promoting wound closure, collagen deposition, neovascularization, and re-epithelialization. It is also traditionally used in West African ethnomedicine for the management of diabetes mellitus, malaria, ulcers, and various inflammatory conditions.
