Overview
Newbouldia laevis root extract is a botanical preparation derived from the roots of the Newbouldia laevis tree, a species native to tropical Africa and widely used in traditional Nigerian medicine. The extract is traditionally employed to treat a variety of ailments, including pain, inflammation, epilepsy, and convulsions. Scientific investigations, such as those conducted in Wistar rats, have corroborated these uses, demonstrating significant analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and anticonvulsant activities. These effects are attributed to a diverse array of phytochemicals present in the root, including alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and quinones. While it is a staple of ethnomedicine, it has not yet undergone formal clinical development for regulatory approval as a pharmaceutical drug.
