Overview

Newcastle disease virus AMHA1 is an attenuated Iraqi strain of the Newcastle disease virus (NDV) being developed as an oncolytic virotherapy. NDV is an avian paramyxovirus that exhibits natural tumor selectivity, replicating preferentially in cancer cells with impaired interferon signaling while sparing healthy cells. The AMHA1 strain has shown potent cytotoxic activity in vitro against human digestive system tumors, including esophageal and colorectal carcinomas, by inducing apoptosis and direct viral lysis. It is currently under investigation by researchers at the Iraqi Center for Cancer and Medical Genetics Research for its potential as a first-line or adjunctive cancer treatment.
