Newvast

Newvast is a branded oral formulation of the statin atorvastatin used to treat dyslipidemia and reduce cardiovascular risk by lowering LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and total cholesterol while modestly raising HDL cholesterol. As a competitive inhibitor of hepatic 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, atorvastatin reduces mevalonate and downstream cholesterol synthesis, leading to upregulation of LDL receptors in the liver and enhanced clearance of circulating LDL particles. Newvast tablets are marketed in multiple strengths (typically 10–80 mg) for once-daily dosing and are used in primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and cardiovascular risk reduction in patients at increased risk, similar to other atorvastatin-containing products.[13][15]
