Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NEX-22 is a long-acting depot formulation of liraglutide, a GLP-1 analog, developed by Nanexa AB using their proprietary PharmaShell® drug delivery technology. This formulation is designed to be administered as a monthly subcutaneous injection, representing a significant improvement over the current daily injection requirement for liraglutide. The PharmaShell® technology utilizes Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) to create a thin shell around pharmaceutical particles, enabling controlled release of the active ingredient over an extended period, approximately 28 days. Early clinical trials have shown a potentially reduced incidence of common GLP-1-associated gastrointestinal side effects compared to standard liraglutide treatment.
