Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NexGard Combo is a topical broad-spectrum endectoparasiticide developed by Boehringer Ingelheim for feline use. It is a fixed-dose combination of three active ingredients: esafoxolaner, a purified enantiomer of afoxolaner that targets GABA receptors to provide insecticidal and acaricidal activity; eprinomectin, a macrocyclic lactone that binds to glutamate-gated chloride channels to treat nematode infections and prevent heartworm disease; and praziquantel, a cestocide that alters membrane permeability and calcium homeostasis to treat tapeworms. Approved by the U.S. FDA in 2023, it is indicated for the treatment and control of fleas, ticks, ear mites, roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms, as well as the prevention of heartworm disease in cats.
