Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**NexHA** is an FDA-approved injectable solution of hyaluronate sodium (10 mg/mL), a purified form of hyaluronic acid extracted from *Streptococcus* spp. capsules and free of protein and nucleic acids. It serves as a bioequivalent generic to Legend®, administered intravenously to horses for treating joint dysfunction in the carpus or fetlock due to non-infectious synovitis associated with equine osteoarthritis. The mechanism involves replacing synovial fluid to restore joint lubrication, regulating cellular constituents to reduce exudation and enzyme degradation, exerting anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting granulocyte and macrophage migration, and enhancing visco-elastic properties of joint fluid. Developed initially by Bioniche Animal Health and now marketed by Vetoquinol after their 2014 acquisition, it is dosed at 4 mL (40 mg) IV weekly for up to three treatments, with stall rest recommended post-injection.[1][3][6]
