Nexpowder is a proprietary, powder-based hemostatic agent designed for endoscopic management of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding. It is composed primarily of succinic anhydride (ε-poly-L-lysine) and oxidized dextran. When sprayed onto a bleeding site via an endoscope, the hydrophilic powder rapidly forms an adhesive gel upon contact with moisture or blood through reversible crosslinking. This gel acts as a physical barrier to control bleeding by adhering to the tissue and preventing further blood loss or contamination at the ulcer site. The gel degrades naturally within 1–3 days and is excreted from the GI tract by peristalsis[2][3][8]. Nexpowder has demonstrated high immediate hemostasis rates (over 94%) and low rebleeding rates in clinical studies for both upper and lower GI tract bleeding[4][10]. It does not require CO2 or air compressors for delivery, features minimized catheter clogging, maintains endoscopic visibility during application, and can be used even in the absence of active bleeding[8]. Originally developed by NEXT BIOMEDICAL in South Korea, it is distributed globally through Medtronic. The product has received regulatory approvals including FDA clearance for both upper and lower GI indications[7], as well as approval from other international agencies.
