NextGen In-office Whitening System

The NextGen In-office Whitening System is a professional dental whitening treatment developed by Colgate-Palmolive, currently in Phase 3 clinical development for the treatment of tooth discoloration. The system is a combination product consisting of a high-concentration whitening gel (typically hydrogen peroxide-based) and a specialized light-emitting diode (LED) device (CP LED) designed to accelerate the bleaching process. The mechanism of action involves the application of the whitening gel to the tooth surface, followed by LED light activation. The light acts as a catalyst to accelerate the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into reactive oxygen species, which penetrate the enamel and dentin to oxidize and break down chromogens (pigmented organic molecules) responsible for extrinsic and intrinsic staining. In clinical evaluations, the NextGen system is compared for whitening efficacy and safety against established professional standards such as Philips Zoom and Opalescence Boost. While the system is often used in protocols that include standard fluoride toothpaste for maintenance, the NextGen system itself is the primary investigational treatment for discoloration.
