Neydharting mud is a therapeutic peloid (medicinal mud) harvested from the Neydharting Moor in Austria. It is composed of organic matter from over 300 different plant species that have undergone a multi-millennial decomposition process, resulting in a substance rich in humic acids, minerals, and trace elements. Used primarily in balneotherapy for musculoskeletal and rheumatic conditions, it is typically applied as a heated mud pack. Its therapeutic effects are attributed to a combination of thermophysical properties (heat retention and slow release) and chemical actions, where bioactive components like humic acids may exert anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Clinical studies, such as those in knee osteoarthritis, have demonstrated its ability to improve pain, joint function, and quality of life while reducing the need for systemic analgesics.
