NF-kappab decoy is a synthetic double-stranded oligodeoxynucleotide designed to mimic the consensus DNA binding sequence of the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) transcription factor. By acting as a "decoy," it competitively binds activated NF-κB proteins in the cell nucleus and prevents them from interacting with their natural DNA targets. This inhibition blocks the transcription of genes regulated by NF-κB, many of which are involved in inflammation and immune responses. The drug has been investigated for its potential to treat inflammatory diseases such as atopic dermatitis and soft tissue inflammation by suppressing pro-inflammatory gene expression (e.g., IL-6 and IL-8). Preclinical studies have also shown effects on reducing atherosclerotic plaque formation and prolonging cardiac transplant survival[1][2][4][7][8].
