Overview

NG-hydroxy-L-arginine is a naturally occurring intermediate in the enzymatic conversion of L-arginine to nitric oxide (NO) via nitric oxide synthase (NOS). It acts as both a substrate and a regulator within the nitric oxide pathway and serves as a physiological inhibitor of arginase, an enzyme that competes with NOS for L-arginine. The compound plays a crucial role in modulating nitric oxide production and vascular tone. It has been investigated primarily in research settings for its effects on blood flow, hemodynamics, and its ability to antagonize the effects of nitric oxide synthesis inhibition. It is not a marketed pharmaceutical and does not have established therapeutic indications[1][5][9][11][14].
