NG201-NP is an investigational adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapy developed by Elisigen for the treatment of chronic neuropathic pain, including painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN) and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). The therapy utilizes a proprietary AAV vector engineered for efficient transduction of the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) following administration. NG201-NP delivers a transgene encoding an inhibitory neurotransmitter synthetic enzyme, such as glutamate decarboxylase, which is intended to increase the local production of GABA and suppress the hyperexcitability of primary sensory neurons. By modulating pain signaling at the level of the DRG, NG201-NP aims to provide sustained, localized analgesia without the systemic side effects or addiction risks associated with conventional pain medications like opioids.
