Overview

NGC-Gem is an oral analog of gemcitabine (Gemzar) developed as a next-generation chemotherapy agent for cancer treatment. Unlike standard gemcitabine, which is administered intravenously and converted to its active metabolite by a specific enzyme system, NGC-Gem is designed to be orally bioavailable and utilizes a different enzymatic pathway for activation. This alternative metabolic route may allow it to overcome resistance mechanisms seen in some patients treated with conventional gemcitabine. The drug aims to provide therapeutic benefit in cancers where gemcitabine is used—such as pancreatic and other solid tumors—including in patients who are inherently resistant or have acquired resistance to standard gemcitabine therapy. Processa Pharmaceuticals is currently evaluating NGC-Gem’s efficacy and safety profile, with plans for further clinical development discussions with the FDA[1][2][3][4][5].
