Overview

NGM395 is an engineered long-acting analogue of growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF15), a human hormone. It acts as an agonist of the glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor receptor (GDNFR/GFRAL) and is being developed for metabolic diseases, specifically obesity and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The drug was originally developed by NGM Biopharmaceuticals. Its mechanism involves mimicking or replacing GDF15 to activate its receptor pathway, which plays a role in regulating appetite and energy balance. Clinical development reached phase 1 trials for both obesity and NAFLD[1][2][3][6].
