Overview

NGX292 is a small molecule muscarinic M1 receptor agonist that was developed by TorreyPines Therapeutics for the treatment of central nervous system disorders. As a follow-on candidate to NGX267, NGX292 was designed to exhibit functional specificity for the M1 receptor subtype, aiming to enhance cognitive processes while avoiding the side effects typically associated with non-selective muscarinic activation (such as those affecting the M2 and M3 receptors). The drug was primarily investigated in preclinical studies for Alzheimer's disease and chemotherapy-induced cognitive impairment (CIAS). Development of the compound appears to have ceased following the merger of TorreyPines Therapeutics with Raptor Pharmaceuticals in 2009.
