This investigational vitamin therapy combination consists of high-dose niacinamide (Vitamin B3), ascorbate (Vitamin C), and pyridoxine (Vitamin B6). It was developed and studied by the Beersheva Mental Health Center as an adjunctive treatment to the antipsychotic medication risperidone for patients with first-episode schizophrenia. The therapy is based on the orthomolecular psychiatry approach, originally advocated by Osmond and Hoffer in 1962, which posits that high doses of specific vitamins can correct biochemical imbalances and improve clinical outcomes in psychiatric disorders. The combination was evaluated in a Phase 4, randomized, open-label clinical trial (NCT00140166) where it was compared against a standard multivitamin (Centrum Forte) plus dietary counseling. The study focused on patients within their first year of illness and first hospitalization to determine if early nutritional intervention could enhance the efficacy of standard antipsychotic treatment.
