The NIBRG-14 H5N1 vaccine is an inactivated, whole-virion influenza vaccine developed to provide protection against the highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza virus. It is based on the NIBRG-14 reference strain, which was engineered via reverse genetics from the A/Vietnam/1194/2004 (H5N1) virus to reduce its pathogenicity for safer manufacturing while maintaining its antigenic profile. In Hungary, this vaccine (often branded as Fluval P) was developed by Omninvest in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer's Office (OTH) as a 'mock-up' pandemic vaccine. It is typically formulated with an aluminum phosphate adjuvant and administered intramuscularly. Clinical studies, including Phase 4 trials, have demonstrated its ability to elicit robust and durable antibody responses in healthy adults, making it a key component of pandemic preparedness strategies.
