Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nicabate is an over-the-counter nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) brand containing nicotine (typically as nicotine resin complex) formulated as transdermal patches, chewing gum, and mini lozenges to aid smoking cessation by relieving withdrawal symptoms and reducing cravings. By delivering controlled doses of nicotine without combustion products, Nicabate stimulates nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the central and peripheral nervous systems to partially substitute for the pharmacologic effects of cigarette smoking, thereby attenuating withdrawal-related irritability, anxiety, and urges to smoke while allowing gradual tapering of nicotine exposure.[1][4][6][9][10][13][22][25]
