Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Niclosamide ethanolamine salt-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin** is a preclinical inclusion-complex formulation in which niclosamide ethanolamine salt is complexed with hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin to improve aqueous solubility and bioavailability. The pharmacologically active component, niclosamide ethanolamine salt, is a niclosamide derivative with mitochondrial uncoupling activity. In mouse colon-cancer research, the formulation showed greater antitumor activity than niclosamide ethanolamine salt alone and was investigated for effects on tumor-associated metabolism, intestinal microbiota, and signaling pathways including PI3K-Akt-mTOR, STAT3, Wnt/β-catenin, autophagy, and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma signaling. It is not an approved medicine or a registered clinical development program.
