Overview
Nicoboxil is a small-molecule nicotinic acid ester used topically as a rubefacient and local vasodilator. It produces localized cutaneous hyperaemia, erythema, and warmth through a prostaglandin-associated vasodilatory effect. Nicoboxil has principally been used as an active ingredient in topical products co-formulated with nonivamide, including Finalgon, for symptomatic musculoskeletal pain; it was also evaluated, including as a monotherapy comparator, in Phase 3 studies of acute nonspecific low back pain.
