Overview

Nicophar is a prescription-grade liquid nicotine (e-liquid) formulation designed for use in vaporised nicotine products (VNPs) or electronic cigarettes to assist with tobacco smoking cessation and harm reduction. Formulated as an unflavoured liquid containing nicotine (typically at a concentration of 12 mg/mL) in a vehicle of glycerol and water, Nicophar acts as an agonist at the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) to alleviate cravings and withdrawal symptoms associated with tobacco cessation. It has been evaluated in several clinical trials in Australia, including the HARMONY trial for adults receiving opioid agonist treatment (OAT), the THRiVe trial for people living with HIV (PLHIV), and Project NEAT for individuals discharged from residential alcohol and drug withdrawal services.
