Overview

Nicotinamide riboside malate (NRHM) is a small molecule dietary supplement and research compound that serves as a potent precursor to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+). It consists of nicotinamide riboside (NR), a vitamin B3 analog, ionically bonded with L-malic acid (malate). Developed by companies such as Thorne HealthTech and Biosynth Carbosynth, NRHM was designed to offer superior stability, solubility, and manufacturing parameters compared to the more common nicotinamide riboside chloride salt. Upon oral ingestion, NRHM is converted into NAD+, which subsequently activates sirtuins, specifically SIRT1 and SIRT3. These proteins are critical regulators of cellular metabolism, mitochondrial biogenesis, and DNA repair. NRHM is currently being investigated for its potential therapeutic applications in metabolic disorders, cardiovascular conditions, age-related pathologies, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.
