Overview

Nicotinamide riboside tartrate is a small molecule compound that serves as an orally active precursor to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+). As a salt form of nicotinamide riboside (a form of vitamin B3), it was developed by Biosynth Carbosynth as a more stable and manufacturable alternative to the chloride salt for large-scale production. The compound functions by increasing intracellular NAD+ levels, which in turn activates sirtuin enzymes such as SIRT1 and SIRT3. These enzymes are vital for mitochondrial health, oxidative metabolism, and cellular repair. It has been investigated for its potential therapeutic effects in metabolic abnormalities, high-fat diet-induced obesity, and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's disease. Currently, it is available as a research chemical and a dietary supplement.
