Nicotine polacrilex is a pharmaceutical formulation in which nicotine is bound to an ion-exchange resin (such as polymethacrylic acid) to facilitate controlled release and absorption through the oral mucosa. It is primarily used in gum and lozenge forms for nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) to aid smoking cessation. The delivery system maximizes the amount of nicotine absorbed by the mouth—about 80–90% of released nicotine—helping reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings associated with quitting smoking.
