Nifuratel is a nitrofuran derivative with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, used primarily in gynecology for the treatment of genitourinary tract infections. It acts as an antiprotozoal, antifungal, and antibacterial agent effective against organisms such as *Trichomonas vaginalis*, *Gardnerella vaginalis*, *Chlamydia trachomatis*, *Mycoplasma spp.*, and *Candida* species. Nifuratel can be administered orally or intravaginally (as pessaries or ointments), often in combination with nystatin (Macmiror Complex) for vulvovaginal infections. Its mechanism of action includes inhibition of microbial growth similar to nitrofurantoin and unique immunomodulatory effects such as inhibition of Syk recruitment to the gamma subunit of FcεRI on mast cells and suppression of STAT3 activation.
