nifuratel + nystatin

Nifuratel + nystatin is a fixed-dose combination antimicrobial therapy primarily used for the treatment of vulvovaginal infections, including vulvovaginal candidiasis, bacterial vaginosis, and trichomoniasis. Nifuratel is a nitrofuran derivative that exhibits potent antiprotozoal and antibacterial activity while also possessing some antifungal properties; it acts by interfering with various enzymatic processes in the target microorganisms and damaging microbial DNA through reactive intermediates. Nystatin is a polyene antifungal that works by binding to ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane, leading to the formation of transmembrane pores, leakage of essential intracellular components, and subsequent cell death. This combination is particularly effective for mixed infections where multiple pathogens are present and is valued for its ability to treat infections without significantly disrupting the protective vaginal Lactobacillus flora.
