nifurzide

Nifurzide is a synthetic nitrofuran derivative and intestinal anti-infectious agent, primarily used as an antimicrobial for the treatment of gastrointestinal infections, especially acute diarrheal diseases caused by bacterial pathogens such as Escherichia coli. It exhibits antibacterial activity against a range of enteric bacteria including Campylobacter, Shigella, Aeromonas, Salmonella, and Yersinia enterocolitica. Nifurzide acts locally in the gut due to its poor solubility and minimal absorption from the gastrointestinal tract; it is not substantially metabolized or systemically distributed.
