Nigella sativa seed extract is a botanical product derived from the seeds of the *Nigella sativa* plant, commonly known as black cumin or black seed. It has been investigated by researchers at Indonesia University (Universitas Indonesia) as a potential adjuvant therapy for hypertension, particularly in the elderly. The extract is thought to exert antihypertensive effects through multiple mechanisms, including diuretic activity, inhibition of sympathetic nervous system overactivity, and enhancement of nitric oxide production, which promotes vasodilation. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial conducted at Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital in Jakarta, the extract was administered at a dose of 300 mg twice daily. While some studies suggest a modest blood pressure-lowering effect in adults, results in the elderly population have been inconclusive, with some trials showing a trend toward reduction without reaching statistical significance.
