Nigella sativa seeds extract ointment is an investigational topical therapy developed by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for the treatment of palmar arsenical keratosis. The formulation is derived from the seeds of Nigella sativa (black cumin), with thymoquinone serving as the primary pharmacologically active constituent. Thymoquinone and other components like thymol and thymohydroquinone exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimetastatic activities, which are hypothesized to reduce the size of keratotic nodules caused by chronic arsenicosis. The treatment is typically applied topically over a 12-week period to evaluate its efficacy in reducing nodular size.
