Nile tilapia skin (*Oreochromis niloticus*) is a biological xenograft developed by the Drug Research and Development Center (NPDM) at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) in Brazil for the treatment of burns. It functions as an occlusive biological dressing and temporary skin substitute. The processed skin is characterized by high levels of type I collagen and a morphological structure similar to human skin, which facilitates adherence to the wound bed, provides a protective barrier, and promotes healing. Clinical trials in both pediatric and adult populations have shown that it reduces healing time, pain intensity, and the frequency of dressing changes compared to conventional silver sulfadiazine treatment. It represents an innovative, low-cost alternative for burn wound management, particularly relevant for low- and middle-income countries.
