Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nilotinib + peginterferon alfa-2a is an investigational combination therapy being evaluated for the treatment of newly diagnosed chronic phase chronic myelogenous leukemia (CP-CML). Nilotinib is a second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) that targets the BCR-ABL oncoprotein, while peginterferon alfa-2a is a long-acting formulation of interferon alpha that acts as an immunomodulator with anti-proliferative effects. The combination aims to achieve deeper and faster molecular responses compared to TKI monotherapy by combining direct oncogene inhibition with immune-mediated clearance of leukemic cells. Clinical evaluation has been primarily led by Hospices Civils de Lyon in the Phase II NILOPEG trial.
