This combination therapy consists of nimotuzumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), and benmelstobart (TQB2450), a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1). Nimotuzumab binds to EGFR, inhibiting tumor cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and inducing apoptosis by blocking ligand-receptor interactions. Benmelstobart acts as an immune checkpoint inhibitor, restoring T-cell mediated anti-tumor activity by preventing the interaction between PD-L1 and its receptor PD-1. The combination is being evaluated as an adjuvant therapy following postoperative radiotherapy for patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) who present with intermediate-risk pathological factors. The study is led by the Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
