Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nimotuzumab + radiotherapy is a combination therapy regimen used to treat various cancers. Nimotuzumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). EGFR is overexpressed in many types of cancer and plays a role in cell growth, survival, and angiogenesis. By binding to EGFR, nimotuzumab inhibits downstream signaling pathways. Radiotherapy is a cancer treatment that uses high doses of radiation to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. The combination of nimotuzumab and radiotherapy is based on the rationale that EGFR signaling can contribute to radioresistance. Inhibiting EGFR with nimotuzumab aims to enhance the cytotoxic effects of radiation and improve treatment outcomes.
