Overview

Nimvec AM510 is a tolerance-inducing gene therapy in development for the treatment of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. It utilizes Amarna Therapeutics' proprietary non-immunogenic SV40-based vector platform (Nimvec) to deliver the human proinsulin gene to liver cells. The expressed proinsulin in hepatocytes aims to restore immune tolerance by specifically tolerizing self-reactive T lymphocytes that would otherwise attack pancreatic β cells, thereby preventing or delaying autoimmune destruction and potentially curing Type 1 Diabetes. Unlike other gene therapies that can trigger strong immune responses and limit redosing, the Nimvec platform is designed not to induce such responses, allowing for safer and potentially repeatable administration. Preclinical studies have shown protective effects against hyperglycemia and prevention of disease onset in animal models[1][2][3][5][6][7][8].
