Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ningshen Danxiang Donkey-hide Gelatin Medicated Paste is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Shanghai 7th People's Hospital for the treatment of chronic insomnia, specifically the heart-kidney disharmony type. The preparation is a medicated paste (Gao Fang) that combines the 'Ning Shen Dan Xiang' herbal formula with donkey-hide gelatin (Ejiao) as a key medicinal excipient. In TCM theory, heart-kidney disharmony is a common pathological pattern where the failure of kidney water to nourish heart fire leads to spirit agitation and sleep disturbances. This formulation aims to nourish kidney yin, clear heart fire, and calm the spirit. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials to assess its efficacy in improving sleep quality, as measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Insomnia Severity Index (ISI).
