Overview

Niopeg is a biosimilar of pegfilgrastim, a long-acting, pegylated form of recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF), or filgrastim. It is designed to stimulate the production and maturation of neutrophils by binding to the G-CSF receptor on hematopoietic cells. This action reduces the incidence of infection as manifested by febrile neutropenia in patients with non-myeloid malignancies receiving myelosuppressive anti-neoplastic drugs such as chemotherapy. Niopeg is administered via subcutaneous injection and is available in pre-filled syringes containing 6 mg/0.6 mL solution[1][2][3][9]. The drug was developed and commercialized by Nora Pharma (a division of Sunshine Biopharma) and received Health Canada approval in April 2024 as a biosimilar to Neulasta (pegfilgrastim)[1][2][3].
